The default wordpress admin view is the dashboard, what you see after you login to your blog at yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
Selecting “Manage” on your dashboard allows you to edit nearly everything on your blog.  The “Manage mode” can be thought of as the “editing mode” the manage tab provides tools to edit items on your blog.
